Helping Kids Feel Better
Here are some feel-better tips:

Bring on the heat. Hot drinks soothe coughs and sore throats while also clearing mucus. So eat (or drink) your chicken soup!

Get steamed up. A steamy shower helps stuffy or irritated noses. Or run a humidifier (a small, quiet machine that sprays fine cool mist in the air) to relieve your scratchy throat, stuffy nose, and itchy eyes. Humidifiers make room air moist, which loosens mucus.

Practice healthy habits. Your immune system will be ready to fight colds if you eat a balanced diet, get plenty of sleep, and keep your body fit through regular exercise.

Blow your horn. Blowing your nose is the best way to get rid of mucus.

Rest. Take a nap or go to bed a little earlier for a few nights.

De-stress. Kids who are stressed out feel worse when they have colds. Relax and use the time to read, listen to music, or watch a movie. In other words, chill out and you might prevent a cold!

The benefits of mainstreaming! I am so proud of my students and the students in Mrs. Garcia's science class.  They work well together and pictures like these are worth more than 1000 words.  Whether achieving general education standards or working towards modified standards, these kids are learning how to cooperate, how to collaborate, and how to be compassionate.

Happy New Year! We made it through the first week back! It was nice to get back into a routine.

Just finished writing my first social story using keynote on the iPad. It was so easy and I love that I can take pictures with the iPad for immediate use in the social story. Lets hope the story works with the student!!

We like to use our technology for work and recreation. We work hard for our breaks!

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a great thanksgiving! Four more weeks of hard work before the well-earned winter break. We can do this!!

Just had our first Peer Buddies meeting. Looking forward to Friday when our general education Peer Buddies will hang out with us!!

Thank you to all of our troops, past and present, for their dedication to our country.  Our school celebrated Veteran's Day with an assembly, flag salute and color guard from Southeast Academy, and recognizing our faculty and staff who have served in the Armed Forces.   And... I was very proud of my students for their attentiveness and reverence during the ceremony.  :-)

Many thanks to my fantastic classroom staff.  It couldn't be done without you!!!

To that end, I have updated the Classroom Staff page.  Better late than never! I love you all!! :-) (Now let's take some photos to make the page look extra fabulous!)
