I recently used the iPad 2 to create an iMovie trailer for Los Alisos Community Open House.  I do not consider myself especially creative, artistic, directorial, etc... I would much rather watch movies (and movie trailers. My favorite part about going to the movies!) than make movies (and movie trailers).  I was excited to use iMovie to create a trailer.  One of my students had the privilege of attending a field trip to the Apple store and created his own iMovie trailer using an iPad.  It was incredible!! I thought, I can definitely do this!  Now, to get started just open iMovie and create a trailer.... but it wasn't an available choice. Turns out:  The iMovie app for my iPad was not up-to-date... as the software was not updated when I downloaded the app...

One hour of updating later...
I was ready to begin the project.  Making an iMovie trailer was so easy and user-friendly.  I selected the style of trailer (Narrative) and began filming right away.  I ran around to all 3 classes to capture our students doing what they do best... LEARN! (And have fun!)  I expected this to be a fun project, but I certainly did not expect my inner Spielberg to come out.  I found myself directing students in order to enhance the effect of the videos.  I loved that the iMovie trailer has its own background track.  I didn't have to worry about noise, talking, directing ("act natural!"  "Now turn, and SMILE!")

I am excited to share this app and experience with my students.  I am trying to think of projects for which they can create their own iMovie and I hope I can incorporate at least one iMovie trailer into their projects before the end of the school year.  My next task will be to share the iMovie on the website. Stay tuned!!
