Third Trimester Projects
All of the students in this class have special needs and varying ability levels. The students work very hard on their projects and complete these as independently as possible. For some students, this may include hand-over-hand prompts, while others complete the projects by following a teacher-directed model. Still others complete these projects completely independently. These projects will contain errors, as the students are lifelong learners and will continue to make academic progress. The students are incredibly PROUD of their projects and the work they completed independently.
How Far Will Paper Airplanes Fly? A Science Experiment
After learning about airplanes and different forces, including gravity, friction, lift, thrust, and drag, students made a hypothesis about which paper plane would fly farther. In collaborative groups, students folded paper airplanes using two different types of paper and tested their hypotheses. In a reverse mainstreaming project, students from the general education 8th grade class helped our students fly the airplanes, measure the distances, and record their data. Students graphed their data and drew conclusions. They typed their final report in Key Note to show the design of the experiment, hypotheses and conclusions. They had a great time learning about airplanes and flying the airplanes!
